Google introduced Android Wear in 2014 and about three years later it has come up with the best ever wearable operating system even though the journey was tough, equipped with close competition with rivals including Pebble and Samsung’s watch run on its Tizen-based offerings.
The Android Wear 2.0 will be made available on February 10 on LG Watch Style and Watch Sport. In couple of weeks the OS will be rolled out to some other compatible existing hardware too.
Android Wear VP David Singleton said this is the biggest update of the OS since 2014 when Google started making smartwatch software and it comes with improved navigation, notifications and user interface.
Subtler notification icons have been used in Android Wear 2.0 instead of the glaring white cards that use to take up half of the screen. It is now color-coded and contextual too.
A one press feature has also been added to the side button to launch app menu. Pinning an app to the top can be done with a long press. The menu will first show recently accessed app and thereafter the favorite apps, and then the remaining ones in alphabetical order.
The Android Wear 2.0 also comes with Google’s Assistant and preinstalled Fit app. Unlike the previous version the apps can now be loaded through the Play Store.
